About

Ask me things!

Twenty-something English graduate student in Alaska (ask me about it! I've lived here most of my life, including five years in Barrow, the northernmost community in the US) who seems to be in a holding pattern waiting for life to start--rather, less "waiting" and more "omg so busy I must be out of my miiiiind," repeat ad nauseum. Writer, reader, wannabe novelist, hopeful cynic, traveler (up to 15 countries! *fist pump*), Ravenclaw, Browncoat, Whovian (Ten will always be my Doctor), member of way too many other fandoms, proud geek and gamer girl, etc. (favorites so far include the Mass Effect, Portal, and Fallout series, and Red Dead Redemption). Politically conservative-to-moderate feminist (yes, it's possible). Living with clinical depression since at least 2004. Somewhere around the demisexual end of the asexual spectrum. Possibly a vampire.

You can find me in multiple elsewheres, in varying degrees of regularity: in my writing journal, mostly for fanfic and fanmixes; last.fm; and Twitter (same username for Echo Bazaar, where I misunderstood the character creation for some reason and picked the wrong gender), among others. I'm thestarvelingcat on PSN, which is mostly only relevant if you want to find me in Red Dead Redemption multiplayer, and 100indecisions on Steam, as well as at Playfire.

I also run F Yeah Fireflies and F yeah Raspberries, which are...pretty much what they say on the tin, as well as another one for one of my novels-in-progress, and I co-run the Red Dead Redemption blog the gunslinger's lament.

Look what came in the mail a couple days ago! I entered the prize giveaway last time Rockstar did a multiplayer event in RDR, and I got an email saying I was a potential winner but I didn’t know I was actually getting (the advertised prizes were things like a customized RDR controller and RDR t-shirts, but it didn’t sound like I was getting those). So: here it all is. Rockstar stickers, Rockstar shirt, and RED DEAD REDEMPTION CARDS HECK YES.

FF6 is losing to Metal Gear Solid 3;_;

Granted, I know very little about the Medal Gear games, but FF6 is one of my favorites!

Help me try to save it!

And Also Red Dead Redemption is losing to Bioshock!

Chrono Trigger is actually beating Silent Hill 2 which surprises me. I like both of them, so I really don’t care who wins that one.

KOTOR is beating Assassin’s Creed! Yay! (not by much though, so go make sure it continues to win)

anyway, I”ll stop now. Just make sure you vote. For once they are voting on story so I hope some of the games I like actually win this year. Halo has more votes than it should..

Voted. You can create an account by logging in with Facebook, so it’s really quick and easy, and it’s worth doing even if you only recognize a small handful of these games. RDR vs. Bioshock is probably the one that irritates me the most, because they are both great games, and it’s true that the setting is hugely important and beautifully realized in both, but…if we’re talking actual story, it seems like RDR should be winning. Granted, this is coming from a total RDR fangirl, but it has a much more coherent storyline than Bioshock, as far as I can tell, with more emotional weight since you get to know the characters a lot better.

all thanks to a portal 2 fic…. I’m going to go either sulk, play portal 2 making it worse, or beat mass effect 3 which will apparently ALSO make it worse…

Yeah uh, this was basically me for like a week after reading “Blue Sky.” Well, and with anything having to do with RDR, for that matter…or anything Wheatley-related now that I’ve read “Blue Sky”…

This isn’t going to get you in trouble like the way you play John Marston as America’s most honourable kleptomaniac does, is it?

Noooo, it’s the alien apocalypse! Half the facility’s already broken (and I have to break lots more just to get through it—I mean, a crowbar was my first weapon) and everyone’s getting eaten, so they don’t as such care about anything except, y’know, getting out alive. Which is…probably not likely because I think I’m the only named character. >_<

Games You Should Play: Red Dead Redemption

Yes. Yes you should. This game is perfect.

this coming from someone who only likes rpgs so obviously the story/character development is superb

TRUE FACT. I mean, the Nuevo Paraiso chapter kind of sucks, especially if you’re used to being able to make choices, but overall the game is so fantastic and pretty and well-written that I can forgive it for that. If you have access to a PS3 or an Xbox 360 and you haven’t played this game, GO FIX THAT. Especially now the GOTY version is out and you can get it with Undead Nightmare, which is THE BEST THING EVER. Also! If you get it on PS3, you can do multiplayer with me and/or Calli!

Yesterday I finished Undead Nightmare for the second or third time; today my outfit is brought to you by ALL THE FEELINGS. (Yes, RDR was the reason I bought this shirt in the first place. …no, the hat was not part of the outfit I wore to church.)
