About

Ask me things!

Twenty-something English graduate student in Alaska (ask me about it! I've lived here most of my life, including five years in Barrow, the northernmost community in the US) who seems to be in a holding pattern waiting for life to start--rather, less "waiting" and more "omg so busy I must be out of my miiiiind," repeat ad nauseum. Writer, reader, wannabe novelist, hopeful cynic, traveler (up to 15 countries! *fist pump*), Ravenclaw, Browncoat, Whovian (Ten will always be my Doctor), member of way too many other fandoms, proud geek and gamer girl, etc. (favorites so far include the Mass Effect, Portal, and Fallout series, and Red Dead Redemption). Politically conservative-to-moderate feminist (yes, it's possible). Living with clinical depression since at least 2004. Somewhere around the demisexual end of the asexual spectrum. Possibly a vampire.

You can find me in multiple elsewheres, in varying degrees of regularity: in my writing journal, mostly for fanfic and fanmixes; last.fm; and Twitter (same username for Echo Bazaar, where I misunderstood the character creation for some reason and picked the wrong gender), among others. I'm thestarvelingcat on PSN, which is mostly only relevant if you want to find me in Red Dead Redemption multiplayer, and 100indecisions on Steam, as well as at Playfire.

I also run F Yeah Fireflies and F yeah Raspberries, which are...pretty much what they say on the tin, as well as another one for one of my novels-in-progress, and I co-run the Red Dead Redemption blog the gunslinger's lament.

Anonymous asked: I haven’t spoken with you a lot, but from the little I have (and what I’ve read)... you have a fantastic mind and I would love to get to know you better. If a date isn’t comfortable then something else that allows you to be yourself is perfectly alright with me! Eve roams, running through the story of magicka (which is a great game and if you haven’t played it yet you should!!!) or just more conversation! I just... must know more!

:) Thank you. I haven’t been on Steam much lately, but I’ll probably see you around there if nothing else.

Anonymous asked: I don't you know you either! So isn't that the point of going? Being outside of your comfort zone is way more fun! Like dancing under the stars or singing on a street corner! ... Maybe some day!

Maybe. Thing is, I’ve got a whole host of depression/anxiety issues that make the outside of my comfort zone quite a bit hairier than it is for a lot of people.

Anonymous asked: Will you have lunch with me? dinner? coffee? movie? walk around town?

Well uh…assuming this is who I think it is, I don’t…actually know you, to be honest…I mean, we’ve talked on Steam exactly twice, and I’m kind of squirrelly about dating under the best of circumstances. >_<

Anonymous asked: How is you are 20 and a graduate student? Where are you in school now and where did you get your undergrad? How old were you when you started undergrad?

No no, I’m 25—I think my profile says 20-something; I got tired of changing all my profiles every year because I’m just that lazy. I should actually update it anyway, because it’s not really accurate—I finally got everything finished and officially earned my degree this fall, so now I have a bachelor’s and a master’s in English. Plus I’m…not that busy right now because I’m unemployed at the moment. >_< So I’m no prodigy, just a pretty normal student—I got both degrees at the University of Alaska Anchorage since it’s where I live and resident tuition is cheap, and I started right out of high school at…18, I guess? 2005, anyway. Managed to get my bachelor’s in four years and then went right into my master’s because I somehow didn’t realize how burnt out I already was.

Greetings citizens of the world, We are Anonymous.

We come to you to alert you of a horrific bill that is being pushed through the United States government. The EEA or Enemy Expatriation Act HR 3166 when passed would give the right to the Government to revoke the citizenship of any U.S. citizen for being a threat to the stability of the government. All one would have to do is commit a belligerent act. What is a belligerent act? Is protesting a belligerent act? Is being Anonymous a belligerent act? Is simply having an opinion that differs from the government a belligerent act?

This abhorrent act was introduced by Republican Representative Charles Dent of Pennsylvania. It would appear that Mr. Dent would be wanting a resurrection of the House of Un-American Activities. Mr. Dent claims that the greatest threat years ago was Nazi Germany yet the law he is pursuing is similar to the Nazi Factions Nuremberg laws, which gave power to Adolf Hitler to take away German citizenship based on race, blood types, and those that are against the Hitler regime. Was being against the Hitler regime a belligerent act?

We also come to you today about the NDAA or National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2012 which was passed last year December 31st of 2011. Sections 1031 and 1032 of the NDAA grant unlimited powers to the executive branch of the government to indefinitely detain suspects, INCLUDING American citizens. The NDAA also enacts a suspension of Habeas Corpus and due process for anyone arrested under its oppressive thumb. The same act that could get your citizenship revoked could get you arrested and tortured without a reason as to why, an ability to defend yourself in front of a jury of your peers, and without a time length of detention.

The NDAA was attempted once before in November of 2011 but took so much heat from the public it had to be tabled. President Obama underhandedly signed it into law during the New Year celebrations when no one would notice the appalling acts he was committing.

We, Anonymous, come to you all today.

School teachers, road workers, policemen, fellow Anonymous, school kids, parents, everyone. We are asking for an immediate day of action to protest these repulsive bills. On February 3rd, leave your computers, take a day off of work, call in sick at school, grab your guyfawks and your signs and take to the streets. These laws are stripping away any rights we may have. Free speech, free press, free access to information, and the right to protest, assemble, and bear arms. These laws cannot be allowed to stand. On February 3rd, our Day of Action, protest outside of your town halls, or any governmental building you can find. Let them know we will not stand for such blatant abuse of our rights!!!

Operation Day of Action engaged!
We are Anonymous.
We are Legion.
We do not forgive the desecration of human rights.
We do not forget the corruption and misuse of power.
To the United States government… You should have expected us!

guys look at what I found

why haven’t i heard about the EEA yet oh my god what is happening

wow wHat

What is going on right now.

MOTHER OF GOD, THIS IS ALL OUT FUCKING WAR, GHFHF))

i’ve already reblogged posts regarding obama’s signing of the ndaa.  this video addresses several other very important topics, however, along with a call to action on february 3rd.

This is why I can’t possibly hate Anonymous, because while they’ve done some dubious things and I’m pretty sure their motives are often “for the lulz,” this is…kind of powerful and awesome. A handful of people couldn’t have made the effort to stop SOPA/PIPA, and they can’t stop this, but a lot of people working together—well, maybe. And it’s kind of awesome in general that something even exists to send this kind of message. Like, taking down lots of government sites in retaliation for the creepy takedown of Megaupload is maybe bad because then people can go “OMG IT’S TERRORISM AND ALSO WHAT WE’RE TRYING TO PREVENT, CRACK DOWN HARDER,” and yet…it’s not like other methods were necessarily going to work. Instead the government underestimated the power of lots of people connected by the internet and thought they could slide by all these bills, and here’s Anonymous to say very clearly, no. Do not fuck with the internet or we will fuck with you right back. And I mean…I can get behind that.

Anonymous asked: Anon message for testing purposes - any good?

Looks like. So I guess it’s just spam ask messages, which makes sense but is still really irritating because I HAD SOME PERFECT GIFS TO POST FOR THEM. THAT’S KIND OF THE WHOLE POINT OF GETTING SPAM IN YOUR ASK BOX.
