Halfway-interesting outfits I have worn semi-recently (like…within the past month or so…because the only time I wear interesting outfits is when I go to church) because…what’s the point of wearing interesting stuff if you can’t show it off a little? Unfortunately one of these was taken with my iPhone because my camera wasn’t working at that point, so you can’t…really tell what you’re looking at. I’m rather proud of the layering and patterns in my most recent outfit though.
And loooook what else I finally caved and bought! I meant to wait until the price dropped, but for some reason I’d forgotten that duh, my $25 Gamestop card from Christmas meant I’d only be paying $35, which is…decent, and a lot better than the full price. So that’s what I did. So far I’ve only created one character, a badass lady space smuggler (who is also a cyborg, actually, but she just has some cybernetic parts from what I’ve decided was some kind of accident that should’ve killed her—I’ve given her the relevant scars too) named Mari, but since Bioware’s given us enough character slots for one of each class and each class gets its own storyline, I’m pretty sure I’ll…be making one of each class.
This is a terrible picture and it doesn’t show my awesome boots (although they can be seen elsewhere, like in my Jackie Marston shots), but: reasonably complete Abigail Marston costume! Not perfect but I’m pretty happy with it, and anyway I heart Abigail. Also I think this is this the only SDCC costume so far that I’ve 1) completely settled on without lots of agonizing and 2) actually finished. Although I should probably have another belt that can hold a pistol.
Sunday’s outfit. I haven’t been going to church much lately because hanging out at Calli’s and sleeping in is a lot easier and a lot more fun (and it seems kind of pointless anyway because I usually end up not getting enough sleep even if I get to bed on time, get to church late, and then spend half the sermon in the bathroom), but this Sunday I did, so I finally had an excuse to put together a new outfit. The boots (new from Wet Seal) have fantastic buckles, although here it looks like dorky stripes, and the jacket and skirt are both thrifted. I spent a stupid amount of time trying to decide what t-shirt to wear, too, and then couldn’t find the one I wanted. >_<
Finally got around to taking some pictures of the Jackie Marston costume I put together for a tiny local gaming convention a while ago—except it looks better now, because since the convention I acquired a red bandana and a coat that looks more like Marston’s duster, and figured out a better way to get my gun holsters and what are supposed to be bullet pouches and such arranged…and I came up with some poses, which I wasn’t expecting at all when I entered the little cosplay contest and basically had “shooting at you,” “posing with my gun,” and “seriously? a third one? I got nothing”. (I did not win. But I didn’t really expect to, partly because my costume wasn’t that great and was thrown together at the last minute, and partly because everyone else was, y’know, actually a recognizable character.)
So anyway: some sample photos (unedited, because if I waited until I messed with them in GIMP or even Picasa, you’d never see them). It’s not perfect—I still want a bandolier and some kind of holster for a rifle or shotgun on my back (I also got a toy shotgun since the con, so there’s that too), and going by Bonnie’s clothes and Abigail’s multiplayer outfit I should really be wearing a split skirt/pants thing rather than a normal skirt, but…all things considered I’m pleased with it.
What I wore to the graduate hooding ceremony, which was sort of pointless since I had the gown on the whole time, but whatever. At least my shoes showed (and I got compliments on them from at least three total strangers, as well as people who actually knew me). Also you can’t see the blue tank top I’m wearing under the dress, which is unfortunate because it went with the blue on my tights. Eh.
Taken on Sunday after the graduate hooding ceremony, where I kind of felt like a fraud because I haven’t finished or defended my thesis…or a seminar paper for this semester, for that matter. The actual ceremony was the usual combination of a little bit that’s relevant to you and a whole lot of sitting through everything else. Mostly I was pleased with myself because I decided to wear my Converse as part of my outfit instead of something dressier, and three total strangers complimented them (as well as people who actually did know me and my shoe preferences).
Messing around with PhotoBooth at work and noticed I was making a rather nice O RLY face, so I figured I’d record it for posterity. Of course, as soon as I started trying to do it deliberately for the picture, raising just one eyebrow became nearly impossible. >_< Oh, also, I am wearing this shirt. (For anyone who wonders: RIPT shirts run small, at least compared to other similar sites, so you’d do well to order a size up.)
I mentioned I have very recently developed a soft spot for zombies, right? Right, well, I mostly realized that when I found these on clearance at Hot Topic last week and went “…yeah, okay, I have to buy that.” And then I wore them like the next day and they were cozy and funny-looking and they made me happy.
I would say that it’s weird this only happened now, since I’ve liked Undead Nightmare for quite a while and more recently saw and liked The Walking Dead and the Resident Evil movies, and now I forget what other zombie things I’ve seen or read but I know I have (Cat Valente has that really awesome zombie-apocalypse story, for instance), but I only now got to the “n’awww it is a Thing and I must buy it” stage where I’ve been with vampires and to some extent werewolves for quite a while…except that it’s really not weird, because I’m writing fic about Zombie Marston. And apparently I can’t write about stuff without getting weirdly attached to it.
So I mentioned that this particular TeeFury shirt was an insta-buy for Calli and me, right? Yes, well. Here you see two proud and only slightly insane members of the Miskatonic University Astronomy Club. (I also bought the Fail Whale Pale Ale shirt because I kind of couldn’t not, but I don’t have any pictures of me wearing that.)
Attempted to take pictures of my new haircut and this was the least bad, so…yeah. Ignore the fact that I apparently don’t know how to smile for the camera when I’m taking Myspace-type pictures. Also I should have taken a picture the day I got it cut (Saturday) because it was actually styled then and it looked nicer…like, the ends were kind of curled under a little and it had more body thanks to whatever products she used and also the fact that she blow-dried it, which…I didn’t really have time for and I couldn’t find a blow-dryer anyway.
BUT ANYWAY the only real problem is that now my hair’s too short to pull back for my kickboxing class, and the bits in front got cut shorter than I expected, so they won’t stay behind my ears and keep swinging in front of my eyes. Which is annoying. But in general I like how it looks—I think it’s a little more “me” than the whatever hair I had before. Also I’ve had several compliments, so. (My paranoid side says that’s just because it’s such a drastic change that of course people notice, and once they bring it up, politeness demands they say something nice about the change whether they’re sincere or not, which…yeah, I don’t know.)
