About

Ask me things!

Twenty-something English graduate student in Alaska (ask me about it! I've lived here most of my life, including five years in Barrow, the northernmost community in the US) who seems to be in a holding pattern waiting for life to start--rather, less "waiting" and more "omg so busy I must be out of my miiiiind," repeat ad nauseum. Writer, reader, wannabe novelist, hopeful cynic, traveler (up to 15 countries! *fist pump*), Ravenclaw, Browncoat, Whovian (Ten will always be my Doctor), member of way too many other fandoms, proud geek and gamer girl, etc. (favorites so far include the Mass Effect, Portal, and Fallout series, and Red Dead Redemption). Politically conservative-to-moderate feminist (yes, it's possible). Living with clinical depression since at least 2004. Somewhere around the demisexual end of the asexual spectrum. Possibly a vampire.

You can find me in multiple elsewheres, in varying degrees of regularity: in my writing journal, mostly for fanfic and fanmixes; last.fm; and Twitter (same username for Echo Bazaar, where I misunderstood the character creation for some reason and picked the wrong gender), among others. I'm thestarvelingcat on PSN, which is mostly only relevant if you want to find me in Red Dead Redemption multiplayer, and 100indecisions on Steam, as well as at Playfire.

I also run F Yeah Fireflies and F yeah Raspberries, which are...pretty much what they say on the tin, as well as another one for one of my novels-in-progress, and I co-run the Red Dead Redemption blog the gunslinger's lament.

yeah, I think measurements will help sell a LOT? also, your picture isn’t bad, but photos not on the floor — on a hanger, hanging from a doorknob or something — in natural light (i.e. no flash) look more professional and thus sell better. ♥

Yeah, I took most of these a while ago and never got around to listing them until just now…if they don’t sell I’ll take better pictures. I’m mostly trying to clear out excess stuff, and these are all shirts I was hoping to trade away on teetrade anyway.

I think the first one works fine — the cuts are flattering. The second one looks kind of awkward. Either one might be improved by a wide belt or sash, though?

Yeah, the first is the one I actually wore, the second was just to show that it…didn’t work. Even though it would’ve been a lot easier if it had. I dunno about a belt or sash, though…I can see how that would look good, it’s just that I hate having anything on my “natural” waist, which is where something like that would have to be to look decent.

hey, I have those stockings. you probably sent them to me. also I want your boots.

Yes, yes I did. :p I often buy two of the same thing—especially with socks, tights, and jewelry, sometimes other stuff—so I can keep one for me and send one to you. That…is actually a large part of the reason every package I send is basically overflowing with random crap.

Thank you!

I so want that shirt… it’s amazing.

Yeah, Threadless has some awfully fabulous stuff; they’re terrible for my wallet. In fact I think they have a sale going on now and I’m banning myself from even looking, because…it won’t end well. (This particular shirt is called “Freed,” if you want to see if it’s on sale.)

This isn’t going to get you in trouble like the way you play John Marston as America’s most honourable kleptomaniac does, is it?

Noooo, it’s the alien apocalypse! Half the facility’s already broken (and I have to break lots more just to get through it—I mean, a crowbar was my first weapon) and everyone’s getting eaten, so they don’t as such care about anything except, y’know, getting out alive. Which is…probably not likely because I think I’m the only named character. >_<

I…. do not have plane tickets yet. but otherwise. (Hannah just got hers, I’m freaking out about money??????, but I want to go with her so I need to get them quick so I can follow the same itinerary OH GOD PLANS *clutches at throat*)

Do you have a credit card? If not do you think you’d be able to get one? That gives you more time, anyway, especially if you can find something with a 0% introductory APR. Or we could maybe use one of my credit cards which would also be useful wrt buying some time, although I’m freaking about money too…

news from Computer Whisperer thus far: RAM is fixed, my files are off and safe, hard disk is probably a mess? I guess he’s going to fix/replace that? but haven’t heard more on it. I NEED MY COMPUTER FOR WORK DAMMIT.

Wow. Does he know what actually happened to it? That sounds like…pretty comprehensive, catastrophic failure for such a new machine. Did it have any kind of warranty?

no except netbook still. :( and yeah we have plans for musicky things. I HAVE TO FINISH MY HEX SONG.

Riiiight. You might actually manage to watch something on Livestream on your netbook, if it can handle Youtube, but yeah, I manage you wouldn’t be able to run anything. Still haven’t heard from the Computer Whisperer?

renkris replied to your post: omg it’s actually happening

Congratulations :D

risk-of-being-free replied to your post: omg it’s actually happening

It. Will be. Amazing.

:D I imagine so! Do you know much specifically about what/who will be there? I know Kate Beaton will be, and I’m absolutely going to Nerd HQ (Zac Levi/The Nerd Machine…stuff), but I guess they don’t release info on panels and such until closer. Figure you might have heard more, though?

OMG ILU AND ALSO WE NEED TO WATCH THIS STUPID SHOW FORTHWITH SO YOU AN AT LEAST FIND SHIT TO RAGE ABOUT SO IT’S A PARASITE RESPONSE PROPER #come to the dark club #we have pomegranates

We really do…and we also need to Livestream The Final Sacrifice so anyone in our group who hasn’t can see it and have any idea what Calli and I are going on about with Troy and Rowsdower…and Breaking Dawn pt. 1 now I have the RiffTrax…actually since we’re all up we could conceivably do one of those now, although I imagine you guys have more interesting plans that…might even involve leaving the house. >_<

(also semi-sentient houses because what is the point of the Hex parasite if not to allow MASSIVE SELF-INDULGENCE)

I like Earl Grey with milk, sugar, and a little bit of vanilla extract mixed in. English Breakfast is also good w/milk & sugar. I also love fruity herbal teas. I found a strawberry/elderflower/rose one that was gorgeous with a little sugar added.

Well, and in general I don’t like fruit/herbal tea—it smells nice but it just doesn’t have enough flavor for me—so that’s a problem too. >_<

plenilune replied to your post: guys

AUGH I WANT TO KIDNAP YOU AND TAKE YOU ON A TOUR OF MY TEA CUPBOARD. D: For me, Earl Grey (BIGELOW or Twinings) & English Breakfast are the best basic teas, Lady Grey is sort of lighter?, the rose tea you sent me is DELIGHTFUL, & of course Neipalm.

I’ve had a hard time with almost anything but what used to be my normal, though! It’s quite vexing.

peripatetia replied to your post: peripatetia replied to your post: guys TRAGEDY :-(…

Yeah, I’d be weirded out too if my tastebuds suddenly rebelled like that. Hope it passes and/or you find some tea you like!

Like, I don’t suddenly hate the taste of tea or something, I drank a lot of mint tea when I was sick, and I’ve still been having my normal tea often enough, but it’s just weird, because black tea with milk and sugar has been such a consistent comfort drink for the past 3+ years and now it’s just sort of like…eh, I can take it or leave it and I don’t find myself having any particular desire for it. COME BACK TO ME, TEA, I STILL LOVE YOU. I THINK. I WANT TO LOVE YOU.

the-night-and-the-storm replied to your post: guys

Experiment with different kinds of tea? Or switch to mocha mix like me!

I actually have some of it and I’m drinking that right now…but TEEEEEEEA.

plenilune replied to your photoset: Today’s church outfit, which I think is pretty…

Love love love. And infinitely jealous of boots especially as ALL OF MY NON-HIGH HEELED BOOTS BROKE AT THE SAME TIME. :(

Yeah, I only have three pairs of decent boots (plus one pair I need to get rid of because it’s superfluous and doesn’t fit well, and a couple others I…kind of forgot about because they’re about as sturdy as giant slippers), but I use them all the time. Well, I use them all the time when I’m wearing a skirt or dress, anyway. Not so much otherwise because they’re not actively uncomfortable or anything, but they’re also not great for lots of standing or walking. Two are from Forever 21 and one’s from Wet Seal, so they were all relatively cheap.

1. ilu 2. omg why have i never thought to turn my little vial into a necklace also the cork came out and my satchel is now filled with salt i wonder if this means it got excited because demonic energy

Heh, well, I was inspired by you, since you already had a vial of salt, and then I got on a jewelery-making kick with some pendants I’d been meaning to do stuff with for years (like, uh…some I bought at Michael’s around when you were here…the first time…) and thought hey, it’s worth a shot. So that’s one thing I don’t have to buy off Etsy. >_<

plenilune asked: alack alack my computer is being grossly disastrous at the moment so I haven't anything nifty to cheer you. :( though you could hunt up youtube videos of Mumford & sons playing various hymns live were you so inclined; they are darling. also I love you and stuff.

:( Yeah, I’m really sorry about your computer. Thank you for leaving something though! For the most part I was too busy to be falling asleep and my headspace was decent, even if I was completely exhausted by the end (and, okay, throughout most of the day…and nauseated for the first couple hours). And there was one weird encounter with a hostile customer that used up all my introvert spoons in one go, but nobody came by for a while after that, so it wasn’t too awful.
