About

Ask me things!

Twenty-something English graduate student in Alaska (ask me about it! I've lived here most of my life, including five years in Barrow, the northernmost community in the US) who seems to be in a holding pattern waiting for life to start--rather, less "waiting" and more "omg so busy I must be out of my miiiiind," repeat ad nauseum. Writer, reader, wannabe novelist, hopeful cynic, traveler (up to 15 countries! *fist pump*), Ravenclaw, Browncoat, Whovian (Ten will always be my Doctor), member of way too many other fandoms, proud geek and gamer girl, etc. (favorites so far include the Mass Effect, Portal, and Fallout series, and Red Dead Redemption). Politically conservative-to-moderate feminist (yes, it's possible). Living with clinical depression since at least 2004. Somewhere around the demisexual end of the asexual spectrum. Possibly a vampire.

You can find me in multiple elsewheres, in varying degrees of regularity: in my writing journal, mostly for fanfic and fanmixes; last.fm; and Twitter (same username for Echo Bazaar, where I misunderstood the character creation for some reason and picked the wrong gender), among others. I'm thestarvelingcat on PSN, which is mostly only relevant if you want to find me in Red Dead Redemption multiplayer, and 100indecisions on Steam, as well as at Playfire.

I also run F Yeah Fireflies and F yeah Raspberries, which are...pretty much what they say on the tin, as well as another one for one of my novels-in-progress, and I co-run the Red Dead Redemption blog the gunslinger's lament.

um you are spilling a drink all over your books you ABSOLUTE BASTARD

That is a really gorgeous photo though. I kind of wish the mug wasn’t so cliched, but the timing and composition and all is just fantastic.

I like Earl Grey with milk, sugar, and a little bit of vanilla extract mixed in. English Breakfast is also good w/milk & sugar. I also love fruity herbal teas. I found a strawberry/elderflower/rose one that was gorgeous with a little sugar added.

Well, and in general I don’t like fruit/herbal tea—it smells nice but it just doesn’t have enough flavor for me—so that’s a problem too. >_<

AUGH I WANT TO KIDNAP YOU AND TAKE YOU ON A TOUR OF MY TEA CUPBOARD. D: For me, Earl Grey (BIGELOW or Twinings) & English Breakfast are the best basic teas, Lady Grey is sort of lighter?, the rose tea you sent me is DELIGHTFUL, & of course Neipalm.

I’ve had a hard time with almost anything but what used to be my normal, though! It’s quite vexing.

Yeah, I’d be weirded out too if my tastebuds suddenly rebelled like that. Hope it passes and/or you find some tea you like!

Like, I don’t suddenly hate the taste of tea or something, I drank a lot of mint tea when I was sick, and I’ve still been having my normal tea often enough, but it’s just weird, because black tea with milk and sugar has been such a consistent comfort drink for the past 3+ years and now it’s just sort of like…eh, I can take it or leave it and I don’t find myself having any particular desire for it. COME BACK TO ME, TEA, I STILL LOVE YOU. I THINK. I WANT TO LOVE YOU.

Experiment with different kinds of tea? Or switch to mocha mix like me!

I actually have some of it and I’m drinking that right now…but TEEEEEEEA.

TRAGEDY :-( Have you tried different kinds? I like Earl Grey, Lady Grey, Irish Breakfast, or chai for black+milk tea, or green tea with jasmine or rooibos as black/non-milky tea. Oh, and fresh mint steeped in hot water (maybe with honey) is good too.

Well, black tea with milk and sugar has always been my favorite, a pretty significant comfort drink, so while I’m open to trying other kinds (I…think I’ve had Irish Breakfast a couple times? Not so much the others; need to try them) it’s like…brain. Body. What are you doing. YOU WOULDN’T STOP LIKING HOT CHOCOLATE, WOULD YOU? I did find one kind of green tea I really liked but haven’t managed to find it again, and most kinds of chai (except Oregon chai concentrate which probably doesn’t entirely count) are too spicy or something.

guys

this is terrible

lately I’ve started liking tea less than I used to

like, I started liking normal black tea with milk and sugar shortly after I got to England, it was a thing, it’s been a thing ever since

and now I’m just…not as interested

Tea drinking anglophiles, watch this and then spend days pondering it.

Oh my gosh, I’m so in love with this song. Found it on the Commodore’s station first—I think it’s kind of a staple of his—and it never fails to crack me up. “I haven’t slept a wink in eighty years!”

Turkish Tea by dimi on Flickr.

Mmm, Turkish tea. Well, I like apple tea anyway, which…is a drink mix and not really tea? And even then the tiny tea glasses they use in Turkey are really difficult to drink from because glass does nothing to shield your fingers from really hot contents? But, you know. It’s pretty.
